NSSDEO, Brgy. Burabud, Laoang, Northern Samar– The DPWH-Northern Samar Second District Engineering Office (NSSDEO) headed by District Engineer David P. Adongay, Jr. has recently completed the asphalt overlay project under preventive maintenance along Catarman-Laoang road, San Roque, Northern Samar on July 20, 2021.

The project has contract ID number 21II0001 amounting to P4 million under contract with CDU Construction and supervised by Project Engineer Nicanor L. Mejos, Jr.

Its work components include the asphalt overlay of 0.898 lane km (449.0 meters), thickness=50mm., width=6.10 meters and reblocking of 11 blocks PCCP (thickness=280mm., width=3.05 meters and length=4.50 meters per block).

“This work will improve the ride quality, diminish noise levels and reduce the full life cycle costs of the surface. Asphalt overlays require no curing time, so traffic delays are minor,” DE Adongay stressed as he emphasized the importance of the project.

Asphalt overlay is a paving method of applying a new layer of asphalt to a deteriorating surface. Rather than tearing up an old asphalt surface entirely, an asphalt overlay project will use the existing layers as a base for the new asphalt pavement.

It is important to reduce or prevent accidents, injuries and damage to properties. In addition, asphalt paving is a measure designed to prevent the early deterioration of concrete-paved. (REY M. ORSUA, INFORMATION OFFICER/PR)
