BORONGAN CITY — The Department of Public Works and Highways – Eastern Samar District Engineering Office reported that the construction of the Maydolong-Basey road continues.
Engr. Jayson D. Espeso, information officer said that the construction/improvement of the access roads, Borongan – Llorente Canopy Forest Area, Brgy. San Gabriel, Brgy. Tagasli-an, and Brgy. Del Pilar in Maydolong E. Samar is ongoing with a total length of 2.80 kilometers.
He said that the source of funds is from the Department of Tourism (DOT) for the Fiscal Calendar Year 2020 with a total project amount of P75-M. The said project phase is already 89% complete as of July 13, 2021, and maybe completed this July, 2021.
“From 2013 to 2019, we have completed a stretch of 12.14 kilometers with the project amount of P866-M from the DOT funds,” he said.
The Borongan-Llorente Canopy Forest Area is a tourism site where the road is.
Some 6 km remain in the road project, the DPWH-ESDEO will initiate some funds in order to finish this project, a budget proposal of P100-M will come from the TF ELCAC or Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict.
“Our office will source-out every year a proposed budget in order to complete the 6 km to Basey, Samar boundary. There is also a proposal for the road as a potential for the national road, linking the two provinces, Eastern Samar and Samar provinces.”
This road will reduce travel time from Borongan to Tacloban by two hours.
The new alternate road will also be advantageous to the vans, public utility vehicles (PUVs), private vehicles and motorists especially the businessmen, because they can save time, gasoline, maintenance cost and fare.
